Finally the mid-range tour mixes Comfortable and Budget, where you will stay some nights in the traditional Ger with a nomadic family and others in a Ger camp.

Itinerary

DAY 1

We’ll drive to the Khustai National Park, located on the north side of the Tuul River, about a two-hour drive west of Ulaanbaatar. Although located in the central grasslands, Khustai means “with birch” because birch trees and aspen groves are plentiful in the area. It is a hilly terrain, with the Tuul River forming the southern boundary. The national park was originally set up in 1993 as a nature reserve for the first reintroduction of the Przewalski’s Horse (Equus przewalskii) into Mongolia. Today the Khustai Trust runs the park, funded mainly by tourism funds. After lunch We’ll to drive to Mount Khogno Khan Nature Reserve in the afternoon. The mountain is home to hundreds of birds, deer, and gazelle. You’ll be able to ride a camel and go hiking around the area or to the small sand dunes nearby called ” Elsen tasarkhai”.

DAY 2

We’ll drive to Tsenkher hot spring. You’ll be able relax taking natural hot bath in the hot spring water. Stay at ger camp at Tsenkher hot spring. On the way we’ll visit Kharkhorin, an ancient capital of Mongolia. Mongolian ancient capital, Kharakhorin, Chinggis Khaan’s fabled city, was founded in 1220 in the Orkhon Valley, at the crossroads of the Silk Road. It was from there that the Mongol Empire was governed until Kubilai Khan moved it to Beijing. It served as the capital for 40 years. Following the move, and the subsequent collapse of the Mongolian empire, Karakorum was abandoned. Whatever was left was used to help build the glorious Erdene Zuu monastery in the 16th century. Nearby, Turkish monuments and rock inscriptions erected in 8-9th centuries in memory of outstanding fighters for independence.

DAY 3

After your breakfast. We’ll drive to Great White Lake and Khorgo Volcano. Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National park was established to protect the spectacular mountain scenery and endangered species of fauna and flora. The area has extinct volcanoes, many beautiful lakes, a great number of animals and birds, and is definitely one of the best natural tourist attractions. Khorgo is a unique natural complex (2240 m), National Park surrounded by the Khangai Mountains, which is 3000 meters above the sea level. In the craters some of them are very tiny crystal- clears lakes. The Khorgo crater, situated at an altitude of 2.210 meters with a diameter of 20 meters and depth of 70 to 80 meters, is the most stunning.

 

DAY 4

We’ll go hiking to the Volcano “Khorgo” for a day. There are lots of animals such as deer, wild goat and other animals, as well as various kinds of birds. Khorgo volcano crater is situated at an altitude of 2210 a diameter of 20 meters and depth of 70 to 80 meters, is the most interesting at all.

 

DAY 5

We’ll drive to Telmen Lake is a saltwater lake in Zavkhan province, Mongolia. Three islands are located in the lake, which is a gathering point for migratory birds. The water salinity is 6.49-7.61‰. We could see a beautiful sunset there.

DAY 6

We’ll drive to Khar Lake /Black Lake/ – another wonder of natural beauty. This lake occupies 40 sq.km area, and surrounded by magic sand hills that its beauty could impress one. The lake reaches 40m deep point. Hiking in vicinity area

DAY 7

We’ll drive to the west heading to Khyargas lake a chain of lakes, wetlands, sand dunes and high mountains. Arrive at Khyargas lake – 2nd largest salt lake of Mongolia. The lake has abundant fish and it is a nice stop for birdwatching

DAY 8

We’ll drive to Bayan-Ulgii province. Bayan-Ulgii is biggest town in Westhern Mongolia. Unlike to other provinces its population is dominated by Turkic Kazakhs, which have their own language, customs and Muslim religion. On the way visit Kazakh family, living in slightly larger and colorful gers. They train eagles, falcons hawks to collect marmots, small foxes and wolves and return to the ger, where the Kazakhs use them for food. We’ll stay in a hotel.

DAY 9-10

We’ll drive to Kazakh family.
We are entering Altai high mountain area. We are travelling at the altitude of 2500-3000 m. You will visit local kazakh family to explore their life style and get perpared for our trekking.

DAY 11

Start our trekking towards Potanin Glacier and The Tavan Bogd (means Holy Five Peaks) highest peaks in Mongolia – Khuiten Uul- 4374m, Peak Malchin, Peak Naran, Peak Burged and Peak Ulgii. Meaning the 5 Kings it comprises of five neighboring peaks. While trekking we will cross glaciers which connect those five peaks. Trekking distance 20km approx. (tents)

DAY 12

After breakfast we will go to 4th highest peak of Mongolia “Malchin peak” which is more than 4000 meters higher from sea level. You can get easily on the top of that peak. From the top of Malchin you will have full view to Russian territory and long and breathtaking views to Kazakhstan’s and Chinese snow capped Altai mountains. (tents)

We’ll go back to Van by trekking (tents)

DAY 14

We’ll go Back to Ulgii town. (hotel)

DAY 15

We’ll drive to Uureg lake. Uureg lake is the one of the beautiful lakes of Mongolia. The lake stretches over 19.5km for 18km width for a 65.5 km shoreline length. Several rivers and streams such as Tsagduland Kharigiin flow into its waters. Water temperature ranges between 14-15°C at the mouth of the lake with Kharigiin river, and is 12-13°C in the central part. During winter time, from end of September to May the lake freezes with 1-1,5 meter thick. Uureg lake is a semi-desert region with an arid vegetation, reminding the region of the Gobi. It is the home of threatened species such as Swan Goose and Pallas’s Fish-eagle. On the site also live typical species of the Eurasian steppes, such as Red foxes and Pallas’s Cats.

DAY 16

We’ll drive to Uvs lake. Uvs Lake is the largest saline lake (3,350 sq. km) in Mongolia and forms unique wetlands in the Great Lakes Depression. Its salinity varies between 3 and 35 g/l. With its reed beds and freshwater river deltas it provides significant nesting and resting areas for numerous migratory species. The shallow lake lies at an altitude of 759 m.

DAY 17

We’ll drive to Altan els. Altan Els is a massive belt of sands which extends from the eastern shore of the Uvs Lake across hundreds of kilometers to the Altan Els Strictly Protected Area. The dunes offer a northern desert natural beauty with plenty of wildlife.

DAY 18

We leave the Westhern Mongolia and drive to Tsetserleg soum. Which is Northern Mongolia. It is a great place to camp. We’ll spend the night (tents)

DAY 19

We’ll drive to Murun town of Khovsgol province. We’ll stay in a hotel

DAY 20-21

We’ll drive a couple of hours to Khovsgol National park covers 8.381 square kilometers including the Khovsgol Lake and its watershed, the Lake Basin, and parts of Zunii Saran Mountain. It has been protected since 1992. The Taiga forest has Euro Asian otter, beaver, moose, reindeer, argali, Siberian ibex, snow leopard, red deer, Siberian roe deer and many other wild animals. We’ll go hiking by the shore of the lake.

DAY 22

We’ll drive to Uran Togoo near Bulgan province. Uran Togoo is a very famous mountain in Mongolia, because of its beautiful landscapes and history. There was an active volcanoes 20-25 million years.

DAY 23

We’ll drive back to Ulaanbaatar
